About

Katherine Ward, LCSW, JD,  has been a psychotherapist for the past 30 years, following what she calls an "early midlife crisis," that led her to leave the practice of law and pursue her interest in psychology and human development. Katherine has been in private practice for over 25 years, first in the Washington, D.C. area and for the past 20 years in Boulder. Before establishing her private practice, she worked with hospitalized patients and counseled students at Georgetown University.

In the course of her practice and as she studied the growing research on trauma as well as advancements in brain science, Katherine came to understand the importance of treating trauma, particularly the chronic relational traumas that occur in our families, at school, with our peers, etc.  As a consequence, she has trained extensively in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is the most evidence-based modality for resolving trauma. Katherine has become a certified professional in EMDR and also relies on modalities including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindful Self Compassion (MSC), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Hypnotherapy.  Katherine holds an MSW from the Smith College School for Social Work and a JD from Yale Law School.
